Sender: from tubes to the first jump

Six weeks in photos: why the head tube is double-butted, how we picked the rear-end length and what Ivo said after the first session.

Sender: from tubes to the first jump

Every build starts with a sheet of paper and a ride. With Ivo the ride was a Monday evening at the Borisova dirt spot, and the sheet filled up in the car on the way back.

The numbers

Reach 420, stack 590, rear end 395. Nothing exotic at first glance, but for his arms and the way he pulls up, the difference to the old frame is 15 mm forward and 20 mm down. That is the difference between landing on the front wheel and landing on both.

The tubes

4130 chromoly, double-butted at the head tube. That is where his old frames cracked, so that is where we put the metal. TIG welds, cleaned up by hand afterwards.

The first jump

I told him to ride easy for the first ten minutes. He lasted three. Then he came over and said only: "I don't think about it." That is the compliment.
